Do you want to start the day awake and motivated? Then we have everything you need here for a perfect keto breakfast.

The right macronutrients are the be-all and end-all, in the morning too

On a ketogenic diet in particular it is important to get our body fit for the day first thing in the morning. If your body is not used to ketosis, in the morning especially it asks for carbohydrates, since they deliver energy quickly. But as fast as that energy gives you the “getting up kick”, just as fast it has disappeared again, because carbohydrates lead to a sudden insulin peak that does not last long. That is also why you get hungry again quickly.
From fats, however, your body can supply energy steadily for much longer. The more consistently you change your diet, the sooner you will feel the maximum energy kick of ketosis, because your body gets used to generating energy from fat more quickly.

With a keto breakfast you can wait calmly for lunch. With no food cravings at all.

In general, a ketogenic diet includes foods that are minimally processed and contain a small amount of carbohydrates. Foods that mostly find their place in a keto diet are, for example, meat, fish and eggs as well as green leafy vegetables, tomatoes, courgettes, aubergines and cabbage.

Apart from the eggs, this selection probably sounds a little strange at first and you begin to wonder what you can still eat in the morning if rolls, sweet spreads, muesli and cocoa or coffee with sugar are off the list.

That is exactly what we want to help you with, choosing the right keto breakfast.
That is why we have divided various recipes from our collection into breakfast types and hope that you will recognise yourself among them.

Keto suits every breakfast type.

Table of contents

    1. The sweet ones

You are the sweet breakfast type and you are thinking right now: “Oh dear, but I can’t eat meat, mushrooms or salad in the morning.”

No problem, there are many different ways to make your keto breakfast sweet.

Auf einem Teller liegt ein Knuspermüsli mit Blaubeeren

For example, you can very easily make your own low carb crunchy muesli. You have a free choice of ingredients here, whether more almonds or rather walnuts or a colourful mixture of nuts, that is entirely up to you. Poppy seeds, chia seeds or perhaps sesame also work well in your personal crunchy muesli. You can play with spices too, maybe a little cinnamon and some clove powder for once? Or vanilla instead? Perhaps you also like to experiment and try it with a little curry powder or matcha? Just put a bit more of it in the oven once and you have breakfast for the whole week straight away.

Ein Croissant in 2 Hälften gebrochen liegt auf dem Teller

And if you would rather enjoy a low carb chocolate croissant in the morning, then do have a go at a homemade low carb puff pastry. Because of the puff pastry, though, this breakfast is definitely not a good choice when things have to be quick. But like all baked little treats, the croissants can be prepared very well the evening before.

Our sweet recipes are tasty and definitely healthier than the ready-made alternatives you would pick up at the baker’s. Even so, they should not cover your breakfast every day, since they do not supply you with nutrients to the same extent as vegetables and good protein sources do. So the sweet breakfast versions may be better at sweetening your Sunday morning than at getting you fit for work on a Monday.

    2. The meat tigers

If, however, you are more one of the savoury types even in the morning, then simply throw 2-3 eggs into the pan, add bacon or baby spinach for example, plus an avocado, and you have already conjured up a quick keto breakfast.

    Herbstliches Pfifferling-Omelette mit Speck

Or you treat yourself to a tasty chanterelle omelette.

As with most of our recipes, you can prepare the omelette just as you fancy, whether with leek or onion and chanterelles or button mushrooms, and with or without meat, is entirely up to you.

    3. The sprinters

    Speaking of “quick”.

Does it have to be particularly quick or simple for you in the morning? Even then you do not have to put your ketosis at risk.

You have surely heard of butter coffee at some point. If not, you can read up in detail on what it is all about in our article on Bulletproof Coffee. Under “How do you make Bulletproof Coffee?” you will also find our recipe straight away, so that you can adapt your coffee even better to your keto breakfast.

Ein Matcha Latte von oben fotogragiert.

If you have heard of it already and are thinking right now: “Thanks, I know that tip, but are there any other alternatives?” How about a ketogenic matcha latte then. Fittingly for a keto breakfast, this latte contains no typical sources of carbohydrate such as sugar, but it does supply you with fat and protein so that you can start the day perfectly equipped.

    4. The modest ones

Perhaps you are also one of those people who generally wonder whether breakfast is really necessary? There is not necessarily a blanket answer here. In the first month of changing your diet it is advisable to have breakfast, though, so that your body is supplied with enough energy.

But you do not have to force yourself to eat in the morning if you do not feel like it at all. Perhaps on some days you would like to try intermittent fasting?

You can read everything about intermittent fasting on our blog.

We hope we have been able to show you that it is no problem at all to make your breakfast ketogenic and at the same time simple and tasty. Whether sweet or savoury, with meat or without. So no panic when you wake up in the morning.

Just read your way through our colourful collection of recipes and pick up some suitable ideas for your wake-up breakfast.
